I was looking forward to the weekend fun last week but was sorely disappointed when my left knee acted up. The arthritis hits again and this time around, the pain was more intense causing me to have a limping gait when I walk. I felt old at I had to hold on to something to get up or walk.
Desperate, I searched the internet for answers. I stumbled upon various articles highlighting how curcumin, a compound in turmeric, may reduce inflammation in the body caused by swelling or pain. I felt that I needed a heat treatment for the area too. They say necessity is the mother of all invention - I didn't quite believe it till last Saturday when, out of desperation, I created my own rub as I could not have possibly drag myself with the pain on my left knee. So I took out the essential oils that I store at home (my advice is to always keep some essential oils at home). I gathered my essential oil collection that comprised of Eucalyptus oil, lavender, rosemary and peppermint. I put a few drops of each in a glass container. Lastly, I added half a teaspoonful of turmeric and stir the mixture.
Next, true tenets of the law of attraction, I blow healing intent in the mixture. I slowly apply the mixture on my swollen knee. It looked gross and messy initially but I felt the rub working as the heat penetrates deeper in my skin. I wrapped it up with plastic cling wrap from the kitchen and apply the bandage afterwards. It seemed to work - as the pain lessened on the 2nd day. I applied it again the next day. And by Sunday night, I could stretch my left knee and the pain subsided even more!
I am a true turmeric convert of the benefits of turmeric after this episode!
